Sample Marking

Problem:
Product material changes occur or the laser needs to be re-purposed to a new production line.

  • Generic Laser System

    1. STEP 1
      Randomly select a single parameter and mark a part.
    2. STEP 2
      Try to improve the mark by randomly testing more parameters and test more parts.
    3. STEP 3
      Select a different type of parameter and mark parts.
    4. STEP 4
      Continue to select parameters and mark parts until the mark is acceptable.

    Labor Additional Cost

    2 hours for testing each part and for changing materials based on the time required to place parts, change the settings, and record and compare the results.
    $150 based on the engineering time required.

    Use the sample marking function to test multiple parameter combinations simultaneously to find the best settings.

Guide Laser/Finder View

Problem:
Machine is re-purposed to mark a new part.
Marking is misaligned on the new target.

  • Generic Laser System

    1. STEP 1
      Guess where the laser will mark and trigger the marking laser.
    2. STEP 2
      See where the laser marked, take physical measurement and adjust.
    3. STEP 3
      Trigger marking laser again and check for alignment.
    4. STEP 4
      Repeat until positioned correctly.

    Labor Additional Cost

    2 hours are spent remeasuring the focal distance each time you add a part that has a surface that changes the distance from the laser.
    $150 based on the engineering time required.

  • KEYENCE ADVANTAGE

    Use the visible red laser to project the mark on the target. In cases where you cannot see the part inside of the machine use the internal camera as a view finder to align the mark on the part.

Z-Height Adjustment

Problem:
Would like to re-purpose the laser to a new machine that will mark on multiple parts instead of a single part at a time.

  • Generic Laser System

    1. STEP 1
      Design or purchase system modifications to cover the different part heights.
    2. STEP 2
      Perform multiple test marks on each height part to ensure marking quality.
    3. STEP 3
      Perform height adjustments to determine the variance between part heights.
    4. STEP 4
      Perform production run off to ensure all parts are marked correctly.

    Hardware Additional Cost

    $10,000 to $60,000 depending on if a second laser marker is needed.

    Labor

    $1,000 to $3,000 to install and program the second laser.

Life Expectancy

Problem:
The laser has been running for a few years and the laser diode is degrading.

    1. STEP 1
      Run laser at 100% power to maintain speed and quality.
    2. STEP 2
      If laser marking quality degrades production stoppage will occur.
    3. STEP 3
      Diode breaks or quality is no longer acceptable.
    4. STEP 4
      Stop Production.
    5. STEP 5
      Send laser in for repair to replace diode or buy new laser marker.
    6. STEP 6
      Wait for an extensive period of time for repair or new laser.

    Hardware Additional Cost

    $10,000 to $40,000 depending on whether a new diode or a new laser marker is purchased.

    Labor

    $1,000 to $20,000 depending on the amount of downtime and the total repair costs.
