What are your job responsibilities?

Being an Area Product Sales Manager is similar to being the “coach” for your team, but also getting to play the game with them. I work with my team to ensure we are following our national and regional strategies and if we start deviating from that, or I notice an area for improvement, I offer advice to “coach” them on how we can get there. I also have a sales territory I am responsible for which gives me the chance to deal with the same challenges my team members may face. Lastly, I work with other managers within our division to discuss market trends and strategies for gaining a larger market share.

Can you share your most successful or best experience while working here?

KEYENCE had told me when I interviewed they determine employee promotions from results and not tenure. I think new hires often just look for “opportunity for advancement” and never ask about timeframes for this to actually happen. One of my best experiences with KEYENCE has been them listening to my career goals and teaching me how to get where I wanted as fast as possible, in this case an Area Product Sales Manager in just a few years. In my prior life as an engineer, employees typically became managers when existing managers changed companies or retired, so you could be stuck in the same position for years.

What do you enjoy about your career and your position?

Aside from the people I work with, I really enjoy our company’s culture. We are all hungry for success and work together to expand our customer base as quickly as possible. Again, it feels similar to playing on a sports team and trying to beat the other team, and fortunately we have not only great players, but market leading technology to go out and win.

Any message you would share to prospective applicants?

KEYENCE is an incredible place to work and I wish I would have found it sooner. I had a few jobs between college and KEYENCE and this is definitely my favorite. You do work hard here and the expectations are high, but so are the rewards. Aside from financial compensation, they do a lot of other things to let employees know they care about their well-being that many don’t learn about until having been here for a while. Some of the surprises I’ve seen have been sending flowers to my family when loved ones have passed, congratulations on work anniversaries, giving offices lunches/prizes for winning competitions, being incredibly flexible and safe during the 2020 Covid-19 outbreak, having chili cook-offs, and much more.
