Reading rotating 2D codes on jigs

For improving traceability on production lines, reading 2D codes printed on jigs and pallets is essential. However, cylindrical workpieces and jigs transported on conveyors tend to rotate due to their shape, making the code orientation inconsistent. This has caused frequent reading errors with conventional code readers, leading to decreased productivity.

This application introduces a method for reading DataMatrix (2D codes) printed on the bottom of jigs flowing on a conveyor at high speed and with stability, even when their orientation is random.

The KEYENCE AI-powered code reader, SR-X Series, solves these challenges. The built-in AI automatically detects code rotation, changes in the lighting environment, and other factors, tuning to the optimal imaging conditions. This allows anyone to easily build a high-precision reading environment without specialized knowledge. Even if the workpiece orientation changes, the advanced reading algorithm of the SR-X Series instantly captures the code, preventing minor stoppages due to misreads.

This solution enhances the traceability systems in environments requiring strict process control and quality assurance, such as for automotive and electronic components, and significantly contributes to the stable operation of the entire production line.
