Reading codes through a view board

In wafer traceability management during semiconductor manufacturing, individual identification within enclosed spaces like vacuum chambers and load-lock chambers is essential. However, reading codes through a view board (viewing window) has been challenging due to light reflection and attenuation from the glass, as well as the distance between the reader and the target, making stable reading difficult.

The KEYENCE 1D/2D code reader, SR-2000 Series, demonstrates overwhelming reading performance even under such adverse conditions. It combines a best-in-class ultra-wide field of view with long-range reading capabilities, enabling it to instantly and stably read microscopic 2D codes (DataMatrix) engraved by a laser marker on wafers, even from a distance through a view board.

Furthermore, its newly developed reading algorithm and autofocus function automatically correct for workpiece misalignment and variations in engraving quality. This increases the design freedom of the equipment while achieving accurate traceability management, greatly contributing to the automation of production lines and the improvement of quality control levels.
