On packaging lines in distribution warehouses and factories, reading labels applied by an auto-labeler is an essential process for ensuring traceability. However, on lines where various types of cardboard boxes with different heights are mixed, the label application position is not consistent, causing frequent reading errors with conventional barcode readers, which has been a factor hindering productivity.
KEYENCE's SR-5000 Series logistics code reader was developed to solve these problems. It combines an overwhelmingly wide field of view with a long focal length, and its built-in autofocus function instantly optimizes the focus. Even if the height of the workpiece (cardboard box) or the position of the label on the conveyor changes, it can cover a wide area and achieve stable reading with a single unit without adjusting the reader's position.
This eliminates the need for reader height adjustments and cumbersome setting changes that were previously required for each product type, significantly reducing changeover time. It also reduces the risk of line stoppages due to reading errors, greatly contributing to labor savings and productivity improvement. Combined with an auto-labeler, it is the optimal solution for automating and improving the quality control level of logistics and manufacturing sites that handle a wide variety of products.
