5-sided reading on a cross-belt sorter

In the sorting process using cross-belt sorters in logistics centers and warehouses, the ability to accurately read barcodes and 2D codes on items moving at high speeds is a critical factor that determines overall productivity. This '5-sided cross-belt reading' application solves this challenge by utilizing KEYENCE's ST Series scan tunnel system.

By building a reading gate with readers installed on the top and four sides of the conveyor, stable 5-sided reading is achieved regardless of the item's orientation or the code's placement. The ST Series, in particular, combines an 'ultra-wide field of view' with a 'long focal distance,' allowing a single unit to cover a large area. This enables system construction with a minimal number of units, optimizing costs. Furthermore, it easily keeps up with high-speed conveyance and maintains a high reading rate even under adverse conditions, such as faded codes or codes reflecting through vinyl wrapping. This prevents missorts and line stoppages due to reading errors, contributing significantly to the complete automation of the sorting process and improved traceability.
