Spray and Stickers
As mentioned earlier, white and blue light scanners often have to utilize spray and/or stickers to be able to scan different surfaces or finishes. This chalk-based spray makes an otherwise shiny object, matte white, which helps the scanner pick up on its geometry. It rarely causes issues with smaller parts, but on larger parts, the spray can be very tedious and the setup time can take as long if not more time than the actual scanning.
Stickers, also known as positioning targets, are small reflective dots that help the scanner pick up on parts that may otherwise be hard to scan. Like with spray, this is usually much more of an issue with larger parts as the stickers have to be placed generously across the part. This setup time can take away from scanning, and adds more time to the process that can be sped up.
